"How has your journey with CF shaped the problems you want to solve and the impact you hope to have on others?"

Throughout my young life, I have had the unfortunate experience of witnessing discrimination of all types, whether it be in school, at work, or out in various public settings. This is coming from people of all races, ages, shapes and sizes. It is towards others for the same reasons. I hope that I have had a part in, and will continue to, break the stigma of people with chronic illnesses that are discriminated against. I want to make sure that people with Cystic Fibrosis, or any other illness, get to be treated fairly, equally, and can do anything in life that they want to do! My name is Logan H. I am a soon to be 18 year old high school graduate, living with Cystic Fibrosis. I have a twin brother, Nolan, who is a carrier of CF. Throughout our lives our parents have instilled in us that my diagnosis does not define me. I have been treated as an equal to my brother in as many ways as possible. I have had rules, consequences for breaking any of the rules, chores, and high expectations to succeed in all I do. I have never used having CF as an excuse for things that I did or did not do. The medications, treatments, and doctors visits are just part of what I have always known and I don't allow them to dictate my day to day living. I have played sports all through my youth, from football to basketball, to soccer and track, I have done it all. I am a two sport high school athlete, competing in football and track. Numerous times have I had people say to me or my family, "Wow, I didn't know that Logan would be able to do sports since he has CF". I think that every time I heard that said, it made me want to work even harder to prove that I could absolutely do anything that I wanted. I have been told by many of my coaches over the years that my drive for all that I do is far stronger than many others who don't deal with the behind-the-scenes things that I deal with daily. My journey with CF has added to that drive, and I hope that others who have watched my success in the classroom, on the field, and on the track, with my non-excuse attitude, know that they too should continue to set goals and do all they can to reach them!
