"Consider the positive influence you aspire to have as someone living with cystic fibrosis. How do you hope to inspire and empower future generations of young adults with chronic illnesses?"

Pursuing to Inspire Inspiration isn't about grand gestures or extraordinary feats; it's about how we navigate the ordinary moments, especially when life throws us curveballs. Living with cystic fibrosis has been my defining challenge, a constant companion that has shaped my perspective and taught me invaluable lessons. One of the most significant hurdles was when I contracted a mycobacterium in 5th grade. Those two years of home IV antibiotics were incredibly taxing, both physically and emotionally. Yet, amidst the struggle, I made a conscious decision to greet each day with a smile and a 'can-do' attitude. Maintaining that positive outlook wasn't always easy. There were days when the weight of my illness felt overwhelming, the treatments seemed endless, and the future felt uncertain. But I learned to lean on my support system—my family, my friends, and my healthcare team—who reminded me of my strength and resilience. I also discovered the power of gratitude, focusing on the good things in my life, no matter how small, and finding joy in the simple pleasures. One of the most transformative experiences during that time was connecting with an older patient who understood what I was going through, someone who had walked the path and emerged stronger on the other side. Having her as a sounding board, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of hope made a world of difference. She taught me practical tips for managing my health, but more importantly, she showed me that it was possible to live a full and meaningful life, despite the challenges of CF. Inspired by her example, last year I decided to become a mentor myself, to a sweet 6-year-old girl who's also battling CF. Taking on this role has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I remember how scared and uncertain I felt, and I want to be that source of comfort and support for her. I share my experiences with her, offering practical advice and a listening ear. But more than that, I try to instill in her the same sense of hope and resilience that my mentor instilled in me. I take immense pride in this role because I've seen firsthand the profound impact a mentor can have. My role as her mentor reminds me that even in the face of adversity, we have the power to inspire and uplift one another. Ultimately, I believe I inspire others by showing that it's possible to live a full and meaningful life, despite the obstacles. My journey has taught me the importance of resilience, positivity, and connection. By sharing my experiences and offering support to others, I hope to empower them to face their own challenges with courage and grace. Being a mentor has not only helped me heal but has also given me a sense of purpose, knowing that I can make a difference in someone else's life. And that, to me, is the essence of inspiration.
