"Consider the positive influence you aspire to have as someone living with cystic fibrosis. How do you hope to inspire and empower future generations of young adults with chronic illnesses?"
Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by a strong support system that has helped turn many of life's negatives into positives. This support has allowed me to gain a strong sense of self, especially through my experiences living with Cystic Fibrosis. As I grow older, I aspire to inspire and empower future generations of young adults with chronic illnesses by pursuing a career in the healthcare field. Next year, I will be entering my junior year at D'Youville University to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). With this career path, I hope to use my past experiences to offer a unique and compassionate perspective to my patients that others may not be able to give. By being able to take care of other young adults with chronic illnesses with my career I believe I can offer them the hope and strength they need during challenging times. My goal is to be a source of comfort and support by being someone they can lean on, not only by providing medical care, but by sharing the obstacles I have overcome. I believe that sharing what I have overcome in the past will help other young adults with chronic illnesses know that they can do the same and reach for their dreams. I also hope to empower others by showing that having a chronic illness does not limit one's ability to dream big or achieve success. I want young adults with chronic illnesses to know that they can pursue anything they set their minds to. When I become a nurse, I aim to educate and provide them with the tools and knowledge that can support them in the long run with their physical and mental health journeys. In addition to my professional goals, I plan to inspire and empower future generations of young adults with chronic illnesses by continuing my involvement in the community. I believe that by sharing my story and experiences in my community I can further inspire and uplift others facing similar challenges. Whether through the annual CF walk, support groups, advocacy efforts, or connecting with others one-on-one, I hope to be a source of encouragement and representation for all young adults with chronic illnesses. By being open about both struggles and triumphs, I hope to create a supportive space where others feel empowered to pursue their own dreams without limitation. Living with Cystic Fibrosis has shaped who I am. It has taught me to stay motivated, optimistic, determined, and it has instilled in me a deep sense of strength. These qualities have not only helped me face my own hardships but also prepared me to support others through theirs. I am grateful for all I have achieved so far, and I am committed to using my journey to make a positive impact on the lives of others with chronic illnesses.
